Places to visit
The Canal du Midi is an excellent holiday location. You can take a trip on the canal or just enjoy the area and dine in one of the many restaurants along its route.
Wonderful beaches are only a 30 to 45 minutes drive. You can visit developed coastal areas like Narbonne Plage or visit vast natural sandy stretches such as those near Leucate Plage.
Carcassonne, the magnificent medieval fortress town, is only 25 minutes away. Narbonne is a 20 minutes drive, and there are several beautiful coastal towns such as Bages.
To the north, the Cathars village of Minerve, which overlooks the spectacular gorge formed by the river Cesse, is only a 15 minute drive. Beyond Minerve you enter the beautiful Black Mountains.
Even closer to home, only 4km away, Lac de Jouarres offers picnicking, swimming, fishing, sailing, canoeing and windsurfing. Swimmers are supervised by a lifeguard and you can eat in the lakeside restaurant.
We recommend the book ‘Hot Sun Cool Shadow’ by Angela Murrills to anyone interested in this beautiful region. Her book reviews the fine food and wine of the Languedoc and tells many interesting stories about its history. The first three chapters cover Carcassonne, the Canal du Midi, Beziers and Narbonne.
